EXAN: Im hanging out with the Backstreet Boys -- the burning question is, how are you guys dealing with fame? How is all this attention from girls affecting you? Do you like it?

BACKSTREET BOYS: We love it!
A.J.: No man alive wouldnt love a bunch of girls screaming at him.

EXAN: How would you describe your dream girl?

B-ROCK: Someone who could treat us normal, thats one quality I like.
KEVIN: Honest.
HOWIE D.: Someone who has a good head on her shoulders.
NICK : A good heart.
A.J.: And can be themselves around us.
B-ROCK: Goal-oriented.
KEVIN: Nice smile.

EXAN: Your fans out there are dying to know what its like to go out on a date with each of you. Are you guys the smooth type or are you the shy type?

NICK: Depends, we can be either shy or smooth, I think.
A.J.: Both at the same time.

EXAN: So whats your favorite thing to do on a date?

NICK: I like to go out to the beach. I love the beach. Maybe at night time with the moon out and the waves...thats my dream date.
A.J.: Probably whatever the girl would want to do. Movies, candlelight dinner, anything that she would want to do. Just ask her "what do you want to do tonight?" and whatever she says, we do.
KEVIN: Nice dinner, nice conversation, maybe a movie, dancing.
B-ROCK: An afternoon picnic in the park. Something like that.
HOWIE: Id probably cook her dinner. Have a candlelight dinner and then maybe go to the movies or go out dancing. Id top the evening off with going on the beach at night, walking.

EXAN (to Howie D.): Are you a good cook?

HOWIE D.: (laughing) I try.

EXAN: So when are the Backstreet Boys dolls coming out?

BACKSTREET BOYS: Never!
NICK: We forbid that.
B-ROCK: Were not gonna sell out like that.
KEVIN: We did have (a fan) in Sweden who made some dolls and that was pretty cool. They made (the dolls) themselves. That was cool.

EXAN: Sorry girls they wont be available on the market. So legend has it that three of you met at Universal Studios auditioning there and the other two at Disney World?

NICK: Well three of us met...at different places. We met all the time, A.J., Howie and myself. *Nick smiles here because he pointed to AJ when he said Howie and pointed to Howie when he said AJ!!* We have known each other for the past four and half years. Weve been together for four years. So I mean we used to do a lot of auditions for Universal Studios, MGM, Disney World, thats what Orlando is all about. We use to just sing together when we met up and it when on from there.

EXAN: You guys are from Orlando, Florida so my question is why did you choose to release the record first in Canada as opposed to back home?

HOWIE D.: Actually its been released all over the world.

KEVIN: Except in the United States
HOWIE D.: What happened was the first single came out about a year and a half ago in the States and then over in Europe and it did really well in the States, but it really blew up in Europe. So by popular demand we spent so much time over there that the record company decided they had to release the album over there so we could still work on the album for the States. In the States the market is a little bit different -- theres more R & B influence. The album will be coming out this year in the States.

EXAN (talking to Howie): And it will be different from the one that is out in Canada.

HOWIE D.: A little different. Different producers (like) Babyface - we have a couple songs from PM Dawn - its a little bit more R & B oriented in the States.

EXAN: How do Canadian girls compare to American girls?

KEVIN: That cute little accent!

EXAN: Eh?

BACKSTREET BOYS: Eh?!
KEVIN: Basically weve learned that traveling throughout the world that people are just people, everywhere you go.

EXAN: Youre huge in all of Canada now, but for a little while you were Quebecs little secret. Why do you suppose you hit it big there first?

KEVIN: I think some of our music, since we were doing a lot of things in France as well, came through that way -- through the magazines and stuff and I think thats how it started. And then it just happened.

EXAN: The first show you played was it in Montreal? I heard 60 000 kids showed up.

HOWIE D.: Yeah, our biggest show.

EXAN (talking to Howie): Were you expecting that?

HOWIE D.: Not at all. Its our second time here, its the biggest show we headlined all over the world and its just been amazing. (Canada) is the first country weve gone five times platinum also. So Canada has been really good to us.

EXAN: Canada loves you.

BACKSTREET BOYS: We love you too!
